What the Mokolodi Nature Reserve Volunteer Programme Offers

The Mokolodi Wildlife Volunteer Programme (WVP) aims at providing individuals from all over the world with the opportunity to have a hands-on experience with conservation activities, the Reserve’s wildlife, the environment and the people of Botswana.

The volunteer programme provides the setting to allow people from different walks of life to interact and learn from each other, while at the same time allowing them to learn about conservation, wildlife and environmental education, and to contribute their knowledge and skills to a worthy cause. By allowing volunteers to work behind the scenes, they are afforded the opportunity of experiencing how a well-established game reserve functions and what is involved in maintaining a project of this kind.

How the Mokolodi Nature Reserve Volunteer Programme Works

As a volunteer you will be working alongside our conservation staff and other volunteers in different departments and areas of the Reserve. Volunteers can determine the period that they wish to stay depending on both time available and their budget, however we recommend that a minimum of two weeks is booked so that each volunteer be exposed to a diverse number of activities within Mokolodi. There are different focus areas in the Reserve that require attention at different times of the year, and as such rotations will vary between groups depending on the season and current management activities.

The WVP is a fee-based volunteer programme, where income generated assists the Reserve in covering the costs of hosting the volunteers, contributes to education and conservation projects and operational costs of the Reserve.
Programme Details

Volunteer intake is at your convenience and throughout the year. Generally the maximum stay is 3 months, which corresponds to the maximum days allowable under a normal tourist visa – extended periods are possible by obtaining a long term volunteer visa which can be valid for a year (this is up to the individual to obtain and can only be applied for once in Botswana).
