Accommodation: staying at Mokolodi
Activities and prices
Bookings and enquiries
Visitors can stay at Mokolodi at any time of year.
Sensibly-priced accommodation is provided at the self-catering chalets and the camping facility. Guests are welcome to stay for a single night or for longer periods.
Chalets
Four
secluded chalets nestle on a kopjie (rocky outcrop) overlooking the main waterhole in the
heart of the Reserve. They are well spaced out to ensure privacy and, as the road to the
chalets is not open to other visitors, you can be assured of perfect peace and quiet.
|
Each chalet is constructed in traditional style, the thatched roof providing warmth in winter and a cool retreat in the summer. The accommodation features comfortable beds, solar-powered lights, hot and cold running water, flush toilets, and a well-equipped kitchen with cooker and fridge. |
|
It's usually thought that animals drink only in the early morning and at dusk. If this is the rule then it's fortunate that Mokolodi's animals ignore it. At any time of day or night the waterhole is visited by creatures wishing to slake their thirsts. |
.
At night, unless you have a spotlight, you can only guess what is splashing about a short distance from your bed. During the day, however, you have a clear view of the rhinos, ostriches, kudus, zebra and all the other Mokolodi residents coming down to drink, wallow, or swim. What makes the experience all the more enjoyable is that there's no set pattern to their
visits: you never know what you're going to see
next.
Camping Opened
in 1999 is a facility which sets new standards in camping. Each of the eight sites
is so secluded that you would think you had the place to yourself. You can bring your own
equipment or stay at one of the fully-equipped sites. Where else could you expect to find
your own flushing toilet, a hot shower, and even a kitchen sink!
Note Hot water is available through a Donkey Boiler but guests must either bring their own wood or buy
it from the Front Gate. (Anyone found collecting firewood from the bush is liable to be fed to the
cheetahs!)
|

Mokolodi's first campers give the facilities an
exhaustive testing.
|

Each site contains enough space to accommodate a
soccer team. In fact there's almost enough room to play soccer.
|
|

Each site has its own thatched, stone-built
flush toilet . . .
|

. . . and shower with hot and cold water supply.
|
|
And here's that kitchen sink.
